On March 30, Tashkent hosted the 5th meeting of heads of space agencies and authorized bodies of member and observer states of the Organization of Turkic States. The meeting took place within the framework of the Space Technology Conference – 2026 and focused on advancing multilateral cooperation in space technologies.

Against the backdrop of a global space economy exceeding $500 billion and projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030, participants emphasized the strategic importance of the sector for member states, which collectively represent a population of over 170 million and significant geographic potential for the development of satellite-based services.
The meeting brought together representatives from Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as observer states Hungary and Turkmenistan, alongside international partner organizations. Discussions reviewed recent achievements and outlined priority areas for future cooperation.
Particular attention was given to a joint initiative to develop a technological satellite aimed at facilitating technology transfer, strengthening scientific collaboration, and supporting the training of young specialists across member states.
Key areas discussed included:
– broader application of Earth observation data in agriculture, water management and environmental monitoring;
– use of space technologies for early detection and mitigation of emergencies;
– development of analytical platforms based on GIS and big data;
– expansion of private sector participation in the space industry;
– implementation of joint education and training programs.
In recent years, member countries have achieved notable progress in the space sector. Turkey and Kazakhstan have launched Earth observation satellites, Azerbaijan provides international telecommunications services via satellite infrastructure, while Uzbekistan continues systematic efforts in applying space technologies across key sectors, including agriculture, ecology and resource management.
The meeting marked an important step toward coordinated space policy, the development of joint infrastructure, and the formation of a regional space ecosystem. It is also reinforced by Uzbekistan’s role as an emerging regional hub for technological innovation and international cooperation in the space domain.
