The meeting was also attended by H.E. Walid Fouque, Ambassador of France to Uzbekistan, and Alisher Khaitmetov, President of the French-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce (CCIFO).

The discussions focused on leveraging satellite technologies to develop Uzbekistan’s telecommunications infrastructure, expand high-speed internet coverage, and strengthen the resilience of critical digital systems.

Particular attention was given to the deployment of GEO and OneWeb LEO satellite solutions to provide high-speed internet access to remote communities, schools, and healthcare facilities, as well as to develop reliable connectivity services for the transport and aviation sectors.

These technologies are particularly important for expanding access to digital services in areas where the development of traditional terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure is limited. They can also help ensure the continuity of public services and the reliable operation of social infrastructure.

The parties also explored opportunities to use GEO and LEO satellite technologies to establish additional and backup connectivity channels for national telecommunications networks, data centres, and other critical infrastructure facilities. These solutions can enhance the resilience and reliability of national communication systems, including by expanding international backup connectivity options.

Another key topic was the potential for Uzbekistan to develop into a regional telecommunications hub through GEO and LEO satellite solutions, serving not only domestic connectivity needs but also providing connectivity and services to countries across the region.

As noted during the meeting, expanding international cooperation in satellite connectivity will not only strengthen Uzbekistan’s digital infrastructure but also create new opportunities to enhance the country’s role in advancing regional digital connectivity.

An important aspect of the cooperation is that Eutelsat OneWeb is already operational in Uzbekistan through its local partner, UZSAT, and is ready to deploy its services. The company expects to begin activating services in the near future.

This demonstrates that the partnership is not limited to future plans, but is ready to move into practical implementation based on existing cooperation and infrastructure. The launch of services will help expand satellite connectivity in Uzbekistan and lay the groundwork for practical projects in relevant areas.

Following the meeting, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at further developing cooperation in satellite connectivity, digital infrastructure, and the deployment of advanced telecommunications solutions.

The signing of the MoU marks an important step towards strengthening the long-term partnership between Uzbekistan and Eutelsat OneWeb, making effective use of existing capabilities, and establishing a foundation for the implementation of joint projects.

The Eutelsat OneWeb delegation included Hani El Arja, Vice President of Sales for MENA, Central Asia & China, and Ahmet Eren, Senior Sales Director.

The parties expressed their interest in continuing dialogue and advancing cooperation in satellite technologies, telecommunications, and digital transformation, as well as promoting practical projects aimed at improving the coverage, quality, and resilience of Uzbekistan’s digital infrastructure.
