Uzbekistan and Japan discuss prospects of expanding IT cooperation

Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Mr. Takashi Hatori to discuss ways of expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of IT.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in digital technologies, creating high-paying jobs for young professionals, and developing business process outsourcing (BPO) opportunities.
Minister Sherzod Shermatov acknowledged the significant role of Japanese technologies and expertise in advancing Uzbekistan's IT ecosystem. He provided insights into the ongoing reforms aimed at increasing exports of IT services, attracting international companies, and training highly skilled professionals. In particular, he highlighted initiatives to equip young people with modern skills, including programming, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies.
The discussion also explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in the BPO sector. It was emphasized that involving Uzbek youth in providing distance services for leading Japanese companies would enhance their competitiveness in the global job market. To support this initiative, the parties proposed making full use of the IT Park infrastructure, expanding Japanese language training programs, and launching joint projects with Japanese firms.
Ambassador Mr.Takashi Hatori reaffirmed Japan’s interest in deepening technological cooperation with Uzbekistan and introduced new initiatives to expand bilateral IT collaboration. He noted growing interest among Japanese companies in investing in Uzbekistan’s IT sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties discussed further steps to strengthen cooperation and implement new joint projects.
