Uzbekistan and Malaysia Discuss Digitalization Cooperation with MDEC

As part of the official visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Malaysia on February 4-5, 2025, negotiations were held between the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, IT Park, and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
During the meeting, the parties discussed the upcoming signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at promoting the digital economy and innovation in both countries. In addition, preparations for the Uzbek-Malaysian trade mission to the Syrdarya region were reviewed.
The delegation was headed by Oleg Pekos, First Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies. Also present were Bobur Khudzhamov, Deputy Governor of the Syrdarya region, Matthew Barsing, Ambassador of IT Park Uzbekistan to Malaysia, Oybek Anvarov, Head of the IT Park in the Syrdarya region, and Janat Pak, General Manager of the Asia Department of the IT Park.
On the Malaysian side, MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil led the negotiations. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in the development of the digital economy, with an emphasis on cooperation between IT companies to create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Key Outcomes of the Meeting
Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding under which
- Malaysian companies will be supported in entering the Uzbek market and expanding globally via Uzbekistan.
- Residents of Uzbekistan's IT Park will be involved in outsourcing IT processes for Malaysian companies.
- Joint events will be organized to introduce Malaysian companies to Uzbekistan’s IT landscape.
- Assistance will be provided in establishing offices for Malaysian IT companies in Uzbekistan.
- Support will be extended for startups and innovative companies in both countries.
This partnership is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and further develop the IT ecosystems of Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
